How to choose a Ecommerce Development provider
Written for someone actually choosing a supplier, not for someone selling one.
Has the provider actually shipped a store, or only brochure sites?
Ask for live stores on your specific platform, not a portfolio of corporate websites. Building a Shopify store and building a WordPress site share almost no skills once you get past the visual layer. Ask what the largest catalogue they have handled is, and whether they have dealt with variants, inventory sync and abandoned cart recovery.
Which UAE payment gateways have they integrated?
Name them specifically. Network International, Telr, PayTabs, Checkout.com and Stripe each behave differently at the checkout step, and each has its own onboarding timeline with the bank. A provider who has only ever integrated Stripe will hit surprises with a local acquirer. Ask who handles the merchant account application, because that is often the longest pole in the launch.
How are VAT and Arabic handled?
Both need to be in the build from the start. Retrofitting five percent VAT display rules across an existing catalogue is fiddly, and adding Arabic later means reworking the whole layout for right-to-left, not just translating strings. Ask to see a bilingual store they have shipped. If they have not built one, expect the timeline to stretch.
Who runs the store after launch, and what does that cost?
Stores need ongoing work that websites do not: platform updates, app subscriptions, payment gateway changes and seasonal campaign support. Get the monthly figure and what it covers before signing. Ask specifically whether adding products and running promotions is something your team can do, or something you will be billed for every time.
