Whose Apple and Google developer accounts will the app be published under?
Yours, in your company's name, set up before development finishes. An app published under the agency's account cannot be transferred cleanly, and in practice moving it means resubmitting as a new listing and losing your reviews, ranking history and existing installs. This is the mobile equivalent of not owning your own domain.
Which of their apps are live right now?
Ask for App Store and Play Store links, then download two and use them. Store listings show the last update date, which tells you whether the agency stays with a product after launch or disappears at handover. Read the recent reviews for crash complaints. This is public information and takes ten minutes to check.
What does maintenance cover, and why do I need it?
Apple and Google both ship breaking platform changes every year, and stores enforce minimum SDK versions. An app nobody maintains typically stops working within about two years and can be removed from the store for being out of date. Get the annual maintenance figure in writing at quote stage, not after launch, and budget for it as a running cost.
Is the backend included in the quote?
Check whether server, API and database work is inside the number or a separate line. Most apps need a backend, and a quote covering only the screens can be less than half the real cost. Ask who hosts it, what the monthly infrastructure bill will be, and whether that account is in your name.
